Different partners of the Football for Hope Movement touch on the most important health issues and place a particular focus on HIV/Aids. After all, health has been the basic element in a mutual reinforcing framework made up of the Millennium Development Goals, aiming at the improvement of the overall human development.
Either directly (i.e. through physical activity during development programmes which refer mainly to non-communicable diseases) or indirectly (i.e. policy establishment as well as through sensitization sessions and awareness campaigns mainly on communicable diseases) football for development initiatives contribute considerably to the overall promotion of good health among the youth and adults, especially in regions of the world which are harder to reach with other "tools".
Nevertheless, successful implementation of health-HIV/Aids programmes presupposes the definition of a theoretical framework, such as the establishment of health policies as well as sincere collaboration between the involved NGOs, governments, local institutions/communities and national/international health organizations. Based on these steps, strong emphasis can be put both on disease awareness/prevention and, more importantly, on the ongoing development of healthy behaviours in youth through building life skills.
